Mi:Wi 3027

Mi:Wi 3027, was commissioned by Country Arts SA for the Aboriginal Diggers Project and provides a vehicle for deep understanding and connection with First Nations histories and culture.

Based on the true story of a lifelong friendship developed between the first Ngarrindjeri serviceman from the South Australian community of Raukkan, Roland Carter, and Jewish- German ethnologist, Leonhard Adam in World War One.

Captured while fighting for the Australian Imperial Forces on the Western Front, Roland was incarcerated in a camp for prisoners of special interest. Leonhard, a new graduate from the University of Berlin, was sent to interrogate these POW’s about their cultural backgrounds and beliefs.

Imperialism, oppression, war, cultural discovery and enduring friendship are key themes of the play set amongst a backdrop of a time that changed the world.

This play can be read with secondary students and the script for Mi:Wi 3027 is available for purchase from Australian Plays Transform.

Three Magpies Perched in a Tree

Three Magpies Perched in a Tree, provides an excellent opportunity for educators to affirm the aspirations of the current Australian curriculum (April 2022) for secondary students.

Providing snapshots of real urban Aboriginal life, the play is confronting, sometimes dark and sometimes funny with deep cultural importance at its heart.

For example, following the lives of three young Aboriginal people in Melbourne and told by The Storyteller.

When staged, this work has been directed by Dr Julian Meyrick to an overwhelmingly positive response and educators agree that it would have ‘high appeal to school groups’.
